Former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp could be facing a substantial expense if he honours a pledge he made concerning the charges levelled at Manchester City. It emerged on Friday that City had been found guilty of 114 out of 115 charges brought by the Premier League over alleged financial irregularities.

‌

City have consistently protested their innocence and are anticipated to mount an appeal against the guilty ruling. Should the verdict stand following appeal, potential sanctions for City are reported to range from points deductions to the removal of previous titles and possible exclusion from the Premier League.

‌

Klopp frequently competed with City for the Premier League crown during his tenure at Liverpool, finishing as runners-up in the 2018/19 and 2021/22 campaigns, accumulating over 90 points in both seasons.

The former Anfield chief departed his position in the summer of 2024, and several months afterwards was questioned about the potential consequences should City be convicted of the allegations against them.

Speaking in January 2025, while serving as Red Bull's global head of football, Klopp pledged to purchase beer and organise a 'parade' in Mallorca should Liverpool be retrospectively granted past titles, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Klopp remarked at the time: "Did you say few months or three? Ah okay. We're getting closer.

"Should? I don't say anything. Would? We had this discussion when we left, if it would happen I told all the people who want it, just book the flight and I buy the beer."

"Whatever we have to celebrate, good weather, we would have our own parade in my garden. God what a headline.

"We will see. I didn't follow it all. I'm surprised you're telling me it's two months away. Let's see."

Klopp recently departed his position with Red Bull and accepted his first managerial appointment since exiting Liverpool during the summer, taking charge of the Germany national side.

Liverpool are due to meet City in the Premier League in their opening fixture following the international break on 11 October.
