Matt LaFleur Gets Real About Packers’ Offensive Struggles: ‘I Don’t Know What We’re Doing Well’

Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur will freely admit that his offense is struggling.

The Packers looked listless all night in their 35–14 loss to the Atlanta Falcons Thursday night. [After the game](https://www.packers.com/video/matt-lafleur-we-ve-got-to-find-solutions-week-3-2026), LaFleur said the blame does not fall on one unit, and they need to take the extra time off to try and correct course.

“Well, that was a humbling night,” LaFleur said in his opening remarks at the podium.

“Certainly I don't think anybody's pleased about this. We've got a couple extra days here, and everybody's got to take a long, hard look at themselves, and we’ve got to find solutions and just come back ready to work. But it certainly was a tough night.”

The Packers failed to get their run game going at all Thursday night. Running back MarShawn Lloyd had just four carries for 11 yards; Kaleb Johnson added just six yards on four touches of his own; quarterback Jordan Love had one rush that did not go anywhere.

On the other side, Falcons running back Bijan Robinson had 29 touches for 194 yards and two touchdowns. LaFleur used his success to illustrate the necessity of building his own running game.

“I think we can all see the benefit of having a strong rushing attack, how you can get into normal rhythm on offense and that will open up a lot of things in the passing game,” he said.

Green Bay is without their lead back, and one of the best backs in the league overall. Josh Jacobs—who had more than 1,600 scrimmage yards in 2024 and 1,200 yards from scrimmage in 2025—is on the commissioner’s exempt list while being prosecuted for domestic battery.

“I think we all saw a dynamic running back on the other side, and I think Josh is a dynamic running back, but it is the situation,” LaFleur said. “It's the circumstance, and it is what it is right now, and we’ve got to find a way to just try to … put them in a better position, and then those guys \[have\] got to go do it.”

The Pack is also struggling with turnover on the offensive line. Right tackle Zach Bako-Bewele is out for the rest of the season with a torn patellar tendon. Left guard Aaron Banks missed Thursday’s game with a toe injury, and rookie Jager Burton struggled in his place. Right guard Jacob Monk also went down with an injury. But LaFleur didn’t put blame exclusively on the line.

“I don't want to put all the blame on the offensive line,” he said. “There’s plenty of blame to go around. We’ve got to catch the ball better. Certainly there's some throws I think J-Love would love to have back, just like there's some play calls I would love to have back. There's enough blame to go around to everybody.”

With the rest of the offense collapsing around him, Love was forced to play hero ball, but even he struggled. He finished the game 28 of 53, passing for 312 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception, with a sack; he was hit by the defense 12 times.

LaFleur credited the defense with sitting on receivers’ routes, especially on the perimeter, and keeping Love on his heels, but said he needs to scheme up better passing concepts and establish the run game to help take the pressure off Love.

LaFleur called the loss a “butt-whooping,” and said the entire offense needs to do better.

“I just think we’ve got to continue to work with these guys and try to figure out what we do well, because right now I don't know what we're doing well offensively,” he said.

Fortunately, the Pack has a few extra days of rest to try to address some of the struggles.

“You’ve got three days to decompress, and we’ve got to get back to work,” LaFleur said when asked for his message to the team after the game.

“I fully anticipate, just knowing the guys in that locker room, we know it's going to get loud. You’ve got to ignore the noise and just focus on what we can do better. I think we all collectively have, individually have something that we can get better at, and so it's just roll up your sleeves and get to work.”
