Report: Liverpool looking to recreate excellent Jeremy Jacquet deal

Jeremy Jacquet Liverpool

The last two years have seen a distinct change in Liverpool’s transfer policy.

During the time of Jurgen Klopp, the Reds became known as a side that would sign players with upside and turn them into superstars, but the last 18 months has seen a shift towards signing the very best players available.

With a spend of over £650 million since winning the Premier League in 2025, it is clear to see this transition, but the club haven’t completely abandoned their old ways.

The signing of Jeremy Jacquet is the perfect example of Liverpool signing a young player with a high ceiling before they are considered one of the best in their position, and that is a trick that the club are reportedly trying to repeat.

Liverpool to battle rivals for €50m defender

Jon Martin is quickly becoming one of the best young talents in the Spanish top-flight, with the 20-year-old now a regular starter for Real Sociedad.

According to a new report from Fussball News, an outlet based in Germany, Liverpool are one of several teams chasing the central defender, alongside Real Madrid, Chelsea and Arsenal.

The report claims that the Spanish side would require a bid of €50 million (~£43m), a fee that Liverpool would more than likely be able to afford.

Jacquet arrived at Anfield for £60 million in the summer, so if the club’s recruitment team view Martin as a potential long-term partner for the Frenchman £43m would be a reasonable fee.

A bidding war could ensue, which would complicate things for Liverpool, but with Julian Ward now at the helm at Anfield the Reds will be looking to get their top targets in even if they have to pay a premium.

Real Sociedad will likely push for the inclusion of a sell-on clause in the deal too, but this probably wouldn’t put Liverpool off.

Martin is a wanted man and the Reds are firmly in the race for the 20-year-old sensation.
