SANTA CLARA — The 49ers did not move [defensive end Nick Bosa](https://www.mercurynews.com/2026/09/25/nick-bosas-calf-injury-could-sideline-him-multiple-games-per-report/) to the Injured Reserve list Saturday and instead placed [wide receiver Demarcus Robinson](https://www.mercurynews.com/2026/09/21/49ers-week-2-aftermath-robinson-headed-for-ir-height-to-have-hand-surgery/) there.
But with Bosa among several defensive linemen unable to play in Sunday’s home game against the Cardinals, three defensive linemen were summoned from the practice squad: Viliami Fehoko Jr., Kevin Givens, and Sebastian Valdez.
Fehoko was promoted to the 53-man roster while Givens and Valdez represented the maximum two-player elevations.
Bosa’s calf injury, according to coach Kyle Shanahan, occurred while warming up on a side field before Thursday’s walk-through session that preceded the official practice.
Coming off last season’s anterior cruciate ligament tear in the home opener, Bosa has played in 63% of the defensive snaps (76-of-120) and, although he has no sacks, his pressure and run defense drew praise from first-year defensive coordinator Raheem Morris.
Robinson, who scored the 49ers’ first touchdown of the season in Week 1, left with a high-ankle sprain on a 19-yard reception to the Miami 4-yard line just before halftime Sunday. Jordan Watkins is expected to make his season debut as the 49ers opted not to promoe practice-squad wide receivers Brandin Cooks, Wesley Grimes or Will Pauling.
James Thompson, an undrafted rookie, also sustained a high-ankle sprain in the win and has been ruled out, along with defensive end Romello Height, who required surgery Monday for a fractured hand.
The 49ers (2-0) host the Cardinals (1-1) on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. in Game 2 of a three-game homestand at Levi’s Stadium.
**FINES CLARIFIED**
Fullback Kyle Juszczyk got fined $14,926 not just once but twice for “illegal celebrations and vulgar acts” after two receptions Sunday against Miami. He is appealing both fines Tuesday, as related to his routine celebration of pretending to drink juice, which is his nickname. He also drew a $20,000 fine after Week 1 (unnecessary roughness; use of helmet) against the Rams.
Two other 49ers drew fines: nickel back Upton Stout for taunting ($7,501) and Keion White for landing on the quarterback on a sack ($13,770).
