Cumbrians James Trafford and Jarrad Branthwaite earned their latest England caps in the Three Lions' 3-2 defeat to Spain.

Goalkeeper Trafford started the game for Thomas Tuchel's side while defender Branthwaite came on as a substitute in the closing stages at Wembley.

For Greysouthen keeper Trafford it was a third senior cap for England - while Wigton defender Branthwaite picked up his second cap.

The former Carlisle United academy duo featured in the Nations League defeat as World Champions Spain got the better of Tuchel's side.

Goals from Anthony Gordon and Harry Kane turned things around for England before half-time.

But after Kane missed a penalty early in the second half, Spain levelled through Alex Baena before Mikel Oyarzabal hit their winner.

Everton defender Branthwaite replaced Guehi in the 88th minute as he ended a two-year wait for his second Three Lions cap.

The two Cumbrians will now hope for more England involvement when Tuchel's side go to Czechia next Tuesday, before further games away to Croatia and at home against Czechia.

Carlisle United striker Micah Obiero was in international action on Saturday for Kenya, meanwhile.

The Blues frontman started for the Harambee Stars in a 1-1 draw with Eritrea in the AFCON 2027 qualifier.

Obiero played the first 79 minutes before being substituted.

The United forward and his international team-mates face Guinea next Thursday.
