Harry Kane responds to England players being ‘distracted’ by Man City’s guilty verdict vs Spain

An ITV reporter has been criticised for asking Harry Kane about Manchester City's guilty verdict on 114 financial breaches after England's loss vs Spain.

The Three Lions fell behind in the first two minutes as Lamine Yamal stole the ball from Man City and England defender Marc Guehi, who took too long to release a pass. Then, after Anthony Gordon and Kane turned the game around, City's Nico O'Reilly did the same.

The left-back presented the ball back to the world champions just outside his own penalty area, and was punished as Alex Baena found the net. Mikel Oyarzabal then netted the winner against England, just as he did in the Euro 2024 final.

English football was rocked with the news that Man City had been found guilty of 114 out of 115 charges relating to financial breaches. ITV reporter Gabriel Clarke asked the England captain if that was a 'distraction' for the players.

"Yeah, there has been some discussion among the players, but we always put club matters aside when we’re with the national team," Kane responded.

The Bayern Munich star avoided getting too involved but revealed the topic had been discussed in the dressing room. Guehi, O'Reilly and Elliot Anderson are the Man City representatives in the England camp for the international break, and all three struggled at times vs Spain.

A lot of fans weren't too impressed when they heard the line of questioning during Kane's post-match interview. "What a stupid interview with Harry Kane. Let’s blame the problem with Man City with England getting beat," one X user said.

Another added: "ITV pundit just asked Kane if the Man City news yesterday distracted the England players tonight," followed by three laughing emojis.

One England supporter placed the blame at Clarke's door. Kane was only asked two questions and one of them was related to Man City, which many don't believe is relevant to the national team. The fan said:
