REPORT: Carrick ‘Could Be Sacked’ By Man Utd With Ex-Chelsea Coach Already Contacted To Replace Him

Former Chelsea and Tottenham manager Antonio Conte is being lined up to replace Man Utd boss Michael Carrick, according to reports in the Italian media.
Calciomercato.com claim that the Red Devils’ head coach “could be sacked” soon, after a disappointing start to the Premier League season.
Carrick has only managed to secure 1 win in 5 Premier League games so far. His team have also been knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Brighton.
Calciomercato report that Conte is “top” of United’s “wishlist” if they choose to fire Carrick, and they have already had “first contacts” to ascertain whether the 57-year-old would be interested in the job if it becomes available.
Conte’s record in the Premier League
The Italian is on the market, having left Napoli at the end of last season after two years in charge of the Partenopei.
Conte has had previous spells in charge of Premier League clubs. He famously won the league title in his first season at the helm of Chelsea in 2017, before leaving a year later after winning the FA Cup.
He returned to manage Spurs in November 2021, but he left his post 16 months later with the North London club 4th in the Premier League table.

Will Man Utd consider sacking Carrick?
It’s likely that the board will give the 45-year-old more time to turn things around, but the bookmakers have now made him second favourite to lose his job, behind Tottenham’s Roberto De Zerbi.
While results are concerning, it is the nature of the performances that have raised more alarm bells. They failed to beat rivals Manchester City despite Enzo Maresca’s side being down to ten men for 65 minutes.
They then lost to Brighton after being two goals up inside the first ten minutes, before they put in a listless display against Fulham last weekend. They needed a late deflected equaliser from Matheus Cunha to save face.
