Bears player hit with NFL punishment ahead of Eagles game image
The Chicago Bears are heading into their Week 3 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles under the bright lights of "Monday Night Football." That's great, but it also means pressure, especially since they'll be without their starting quarterback, Caleb Williams.
Of course, Williams was injured during the team's Week 2 game against the Minnesota Vikings and had to exit the game early. Now, he's been ruled out for Week 3.
But, on top of not having Williams in the squad for Monday, one Bears player is being punished by the NFL ahead of the game. He's actually been served with the biggest punishment of the week from the league.
Tyrique Stevenson gets biggest fine of the week
Each weekend, the NFL makes decisions to discipline players for breaking the league's rules during the games the week before. According to the NFL's official website, the league "uses the fine schedule to outline the league's and the union's expectations for players to conduct themselves in a way that honors the sport and respects the game, themselves, their fellow players, the fans and the league." So, it's about keeping things fair and safe.
On Saturday, the NFL fined Bears cornerback Tyrique Stevenson $22,342 for illegal use of the helmet for a hit on Minnesota running back Aaron Jones. It was the hit that knocked off his helmet, and there was no foul called at the time. But, after reviewing the tape, the NFL deemed it important enough to slap him with the biggest fine of any player for the week.
The NFL announced the news in the league's official accountability report. The fines collected go to the Professional Athletes Foundation and the NFL Foundation, per the league.
So, Stevenson has to pay up for that play. But, at least he wasn't suspended, because the Bears need a stable of starters ready with Williams out.
