“Pardon My French”: Insider Rips Kyle Shanahan Over "Another Example of 49ers Player Coming Back Ahead of Schedule And Having Setback" 1
Head coach Kyle Shanahan is under heavy fire these days. San Francisco 49ers insider Grant Cohn believes that the team is trying to get players back ahead of schedule, only for them to end up injured again.

San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan talks to the media during the NFL League Meetings on March 30, 2026, at Arizona Biltmore Resort in Phoenix.
In an X video posted on Friday, Cohn pointed out that star defensive end Nick Bosa missed practice due to a knee/calf injury.
Grant Cohn Rips Kyle Shanahan
Taking a jab at the situation, Cohn taunted that kids across the country are playing a new game: “Guess who pops up on the 49ers injury report randomly today.”
“On Thursday, September 24th, the answer was Nick Bosa,” Cohn said. “The 49ers didn’t talk about it, but they just sent out the injury report, and there is Nicholas John Bosa with a knee/calf injury. Tomorrow, Kyle Shanahan will talk, and he’ll be obligated to say something about it. He probably won’t say much, and maybe Nick Bosa will play this weekend, but it seems like something that he’s going to have to manage this year.”
Cohn said that the 49ers tried to bring Bosa back too soon for the games against the Los Angeles Rams and the Miami Dolphins in Australia, even though both teams were pushovers and the 49ers were going to win regardless.
Cohn also angrily mentioned that if an injury timeline is four to six weeks, then give the player the full six weeks, because the way the team is currently handling things is a complete failure.
“Maybe the Niners should try a new method of rehabilitation where they let players f****** rehab completely. It’s a new concept. It’s a radical concept. They like taking the rehab timeline and learning it as much as possible. I think do the opposite. If it’s four to 6 weeks, give them f****** 6 weeks. Pardon my French because the way you’re doing it isn’t working.”

According to Shanahan, Bosa tweaked his calf while warming up and doing high knees during Thursday morning’s walkthrough. This injury is a major blow to the 49ers. Defensive tackle C.J. West (knee) was placed on injured reserve (IR) this week. Meanwhile, defensive end Sam Okuayinonu (foot) and tackle Alfred Collins (patellar tendon) are already on IR due to injuries sustained during the first two weeks of practice.
Rookie DT James Thompson Jr. is dealing with a high ankle sprain, which will keep him out for three to six weeks. Rookie edge rusher Romello Height has a fractured hand. The 49ers are now left with Keion White, Khalid Kareem, and Ogbo Okoronkwo as their healthy defensive ends.
The 49ers (2-0) will face the Arizona Cardinals (1-1) in their Week 3 game at Levi’s Stadium.
