For Broncos inside linebacker Alex Singleton in the 2026 season, it’s two weeks, two unnecessary-roughness penalties — and two fines.
Singleton received a $17,911 fine for a hit on Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Brenton Strange that saw him lower his helmet and have helmet-to-helmet contact with Strange.
The play resulted in a half-the-distance penalty in the game, setting the Jaguars up in first-and-goal at the Broncos 3-yard line. The Broncos got the stop and forced Jacksonville to settle for the field goal.
Singleton expected a fine, observing that Jaguars coaches “like to complain about people hitting people,” but he thought the fine might be rescinded.
The veteran of five previous Broncos seasons was fined in Week 1 for a late hit on Kansas City running back Emmett Johnson. He was fined once last year.
If Singleton is fined once more for unnecessary roughness this season — and either of his first two fines in 2026 aren’t rescinded — he will face a one-game suspension, per an edict agreed upon by the league and NFL Players Association in August. That calls for one-game suspensions for players who have three violations of the NFL’s health-and-safety protocols in a single campaign.
