Manchester United are keeping a close watch on Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven as they assess their defensive options ahead of future transfer windows.
The Dutch international has established himself as a key figure at Spurs since arriving from Wolfsburg in 2023, with his pace, physical presence, and ability to defend in open spaces making him an attractive option for clubs looking to strengthen their backlines.
Liverpool and Manchester United eye Van de Ven
According to CaughtOffside, Liverpool’s interest in the 25-year-old appears particularly significant, with the Merseyside club considering their long-term defensive plans.
Virgil van Dijk is entering the latter stages of his career, and Liverpool are understood to be exploring potential options who could eventually take over from their experienced captain.
Van de Ven’s ability to operate on the left side of central defence, combined with his Premier League experience, makes him a profile that could suit Liverpool’s requirements under head coach Andoni Iraola.
Manchester United are also monitoring the Tottenham defender as they continue to assess their own options at the back.
The Red Devils are looking to build a defensive unit capable of competing consistently at the highest level, and Van de Ven’s athleticism and familiarity with English football could make him an appealing addition.
However, both clubs are currently understood to be at the close-monitoring stage rather than preparing formal bids.

Tottenham hold a strong position over Van de Ven
Tottenham have strengthened their negotiating position after securing Van de Ven’s long-term future with a new contract in August, reportedly extending his deal until 2031.
The defender has already demonstrated his importance to the North London side, making 45 appearances across all competitions during the 2025/26 campaign.
With his contract situation providing Spurs with considerable leverage, any potential move would likely require a substantial financial commitment.
Liverpool and Manchester United may continue tracking his progress, but Tottenham remain in control for now.
