Travis Hunter had the first interception of his NFL career in Week 3. Hunter picked off New England Patriots‘ quarterback Drake Maye in the back of the end zone near the end of the second quarter. While it was a moment of joy and relief for Hunter, it was the continuation of a rough early season for Maye.
After being the No. 2 pick in last year’s draft, Hunter was supposed to be a two-way star. Instead he missed the majority of his rookie season. He didn’t get a single vote for Rookie of the Year on offense or defense. This season he’s a fulltime defensive back who makes cameos on offense. While Deion Sanders may not agree with the decision, Hunter still found a way to get the ball in his hands.

As for Maye, this was a truly ill-advised throw. Less than three full games into the season and he’s already thrown five interceptions. Maye threw just eight interceptions in 17 games last season.
He also lost a fumble on a comical lowlight earlier in the game. Maye has not inspired this season. When you combined that with the four interceptions he threw in the postseason, he has not played well in quite some time. And now he leads the NFL in turnovers.

And yet what a cool moment for Travis Hunter. Sure, he intercepted the guy giving the ball away more than anyone else this season, but he also picked off a quarterback that just went to the Super Bowl. Maye was almost the MVP! That’s a ball worth keeping.
