Arsenal star Viktor Gyökeres has admitted that he is frustrated with his lack of minutes at the club. He is not considering an exit and remains focused on the club, but he wants more playing time.
Speaking to the media while on national duty, Gyökeres said that he was happy in pre-season and is unsure why he is not getting minutes under Mikel Arteta. He added that last season's Premier League title win was a big achievement, and he hopes to play a key role again this season.
"Of course, there was a lot of speculation. But I had a full pre-season, and it felt good. I was fully focused on Arsenal. Of course, it’s frustrating, no matter where you are. You always want to be on the pitch and make a contribution, score goals."
"It can be frustrating at times, but I just try to do my best when I get the chance and focus on what I can control. It felt good last season; we won the league and did well in all the other competitions too. Of course, we could have won another title, but winning the Premier League after a 22-year wait is certainly something to be proud of." (via Tribal Football)
Mikel Arteta has preferred Kai Havertz over Viktor Gyökeres this season, but the German international has picked up an injury. The Swedish striker could play a key role in the coming weeks as players return from international duty.
Viktor Gyökeres is not suited for Arsenal or Premier League, says pundit
Former England star Chris Waddle has claimed that Viktor Gyökeres will not do well in the Premier League. He believes that Arsenal made a mistake by signing him last summer and said:
“I thought Viktor Gyökeres was a surprising buy. I know his goal record at Sporting was fantastic, but let's be honest: there are three main teams in Portugal, and normally the top scorer comes out of one of those three. It suited him playing at Sporting, they dominated most matches, and his goal record was unbelievable, let's be honest. But when I watched him at Coventry, I thought he was alright, but I was never saying he was a top Premier League footballer." (via Tribal Football)
Viktor Gyökeres is yet to score a goal this season in his five appearances across competitions for Arsenal. He finished last season with 21 goals in 55 matches.
