Chelsea Women did more than collect three points against Arsenal on Sunday. They brought the Gunners’ 20-match unbeaten Women’s Super League run to an end.
Alyssa Thompson scored the only goal as Sonia Bompastor’s side claimed a 1-0 victory at Stamford Bridge.
Arsenal had arrived in west London without a league defeat since October 2025, giving them the longest active unbeaten sequence in the competition before kick-off.

Sky Sports confirmed Arsenal’s unbeaten WSL run had stretched across 20 matches before Thompson’s winner ended it.
Chelsea had entered the derby with an impressive league sequence of their own, having gone 11 matches unbeaten before facing Arsenal.
Sunday’s victory therefore extends that run while inflicting Arsenal’s first league defeat for almost a year.
Thompson’s decisive contribution also followed Sonia Bompastor identifying the forward as a major threat to Arsenal before kick-off.
Chelsea now sit just two points behind Manchester City at the top of the WSL and carry significant momentum into Wednesday’s Champions League meeting with OL Lyonnes.
