Mancini said Man City is 'not guilty' of breaking rules.
Former Man City Manager Roberto Mancini said the club is "not guilty" of breaching Premier League rules.
When asked about the financial controversy at a press conference in Turkey on Sunday, Mancini told ITV News "Manchester City is not guilty."
He said allegations of him holding a double contract while managing the club "do not concern me, but concerns them".
It comes after the Man City faced a wave of criticism after the club was found guilty of breaching more than 100 Premier League rules between 2009 and 2018, which they strongly deny.
They were accused of circumventing the league’s rules by taking funding from their owner, Sheikh Mansour, and disguising it as sponsorship.
This, it is alleged, enabled them to inflate the revenues they were receiving and therefore spend more money on players to strengthen their squad.
The club was also accused of making additional payments to the then manager Roberto Mancini and City players off the club’s books to disguise costs, and of failing to co-operate with the Premier League’s investigation into these allegations, which began in 2018.
Roberto Mancini told ITV News he was unbothered by these claims of a double contract, which City strenuously denied.
He said: "No, it's not an issue that concerns me. It's not a new thing because I think it's been coming up every now and then for four, five years."
This is the first time Mancini has spoken about the claims, proclaiming City's innocence.
Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said his determination to prove they are not guilty remains "as strong as when this began" after the news was announced on Friday.
Addressing the frustration surrounding the lack of public detail, the chairman explained that legal constraints prevent the club from disclosing specific details.
"There are so many things that I would like to be able to share with you to help you understand why we feel so confident in our position," Al Mubarak wrote.
"But the strict confidentiality of the legal process and our determination to respect it means I cannot do that at the moment.
"We have faced challenges together before and have prevailed. There remain many who want to undermine the momentum of our Club. We will not give them that opportunity."
