INDIANAPOLIS — Spencer Shrader drilled a 53-yard field goal in the final seconds Sunday, lifting the Indianapolis Colts to a 19-17 win over the Houston Texans at Lucas Oil Stadium.
The kick capped a wild finish after the Colts gave up a nine-point fourth-quarter lead.
Indianapolis led 16-7 entering the fourth quarter. Ka’imi Fairbairn’s 24-yard field goal cut the lead to 16-10 before Houston took advantage of a Daniel Jones fumble.
The Texans drove 54 yards and Woody Marks scored on a 1-yard touchdown run with 1:48 left, putting Houston ahead 17-16.
The Colts had one more chance.
Jones hit Luke Treadwell for 20 yards to move Indianapolis into Houston territory. Jonathan Taylor added two runs before Jones found Keenan Allen for five yards on a replay-reviewed completion.
That set up Shrader from 53 yards.
The kick drifted toward the right upright before staying inside the post, giving Indianapolis the lead with time expiring.
Shrader finished 4-for-4 on field goals, connecting from 39, 58, 37 and 53 yards.
Jones threw one interception and lost two fumbles, including a fourth-quarter fumble forced by Will Anderson Jr. But the Colts defense kept Indianapolis in the game, holding Houston to 17 points and recording three sacks of C.J. Stroud.
Allen caught a 6-yard touchdown pass from Jones in the second quarter, giving the Colts a 10-0 lead. He also made several key catches during the second half.
Taylor helped Indianapolis control the clock with a steady rushing effort, particularly during the Colts’ long drives in the second half.
The win gives Indianapolis its first victory of the season and its first AFC South win.
The Colts improve to 1-2. Houston falls to 0-3.
