INDIANAPOLIS — Fans said it was an edge-of-your-seat game, especially in the 4th quarter as the Houston Texans tried to hold off the Colts. But fans had faith before the team even took the field.
The Colts defeated the Texans 19 – 17.
Sunday morning, the parking lot around Lucas Oil Stadium was bleeding blue as hundreds of fans set up their tailgates. Some have been parking and partying at the same spots for decades.
Dan Cole has been organizing Tailgate Alley for decades now. They even have a DJ on board. Win or lose, tailgating has been a tradition across the Colts’ highest and lowest moments. “A handful of us have been doing this for over 30 years, and it’s just family. Football family. We’ve got three generations. You see that little girl over there? We have grandkids now,” Cole said.
But this Sunday, fans have a reason to celebrate. Dawson Davidson is a young fan. At 9-years-old, he’s decked out in Colts gear from head to toe, sporting a blue and white hat. “The Colts are doing good so far, I think they should keep doing what they’re doing,” Davidson said.
Troy Bass echoes the sentiment. “They have played good with the Chiefs, and we played good over there. I think we’re good,” he said.
Fans watched the home game with the stadium roof and windows open. “I got a suntan. I had to wear sunscreen over there. It was such a nice day. I love Indianapolis,” Bass said.
After back-to-back losses to the Kansas City Chiefs and the Baltimore Ravens, the Colts desperately needed to turn the tide. “It was a must win for us,” Marcel Bonds said. “It was an excellent win. Our defense fought hard, played well. It was a huge victory.”
Fans came out of Lucas Oil Stadium smiling and screaming “Go Colts!” It’s a start, they say, of more wins to come.
