Back in Week 1, the New Orleans Saints had a defensive touchdown taken away from them when the NFL determined by replay that Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff had already started his throwing motion, which nullified the fact that the ball traveled backward.
While that play happened early in the game, it could have potentially swung the outcome of a game that ended up going to overtime, where the Saints eventually lost.
A similar play happened in the Saints’ Week 3 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, but the NFL interpreted this play differently — and, again, it may have swung the outcome entirely.
