NFL: NFC Championship Game-Los Angeles Rams at Seattle Seahawks
Matthew Stafford Makes NFL History in Week 3 vs. Denver Broncos 1
The story of Matthew Stafford is one of the more intriguing stories of quarterbacks in the 21st century. After being the first pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, he has solidified his case as a Pro Football Hall of Famer once he decides to hang it up. One of the ways he has done that is by being outstanding with two different franchises throughout his career. Let’s take a closer look at how he created NFL history during Week 3 against the Denver Broncos.

It is rare for a quarterback to be outstanding statistically for multiple teams during their career, as elite quarterbacks moving to another team is still something we are not used to seeing. Typically if a quarterback moves after an incredible stretch of time with one team, they are on their last legs and become more of a journeyman with multiple teams. However, Stafford is in a league of his own.
With his performance in Week 3 against the Denver Broncos, Matthew Stafford has become the first player in NFL history to record 20,000 passing yards with multiple teams. Stafford spent the first 12 years of his career with the Detroit Lions and threw for more than 45,000 passing yards. He was traded to the Los Angeles Rams ahead of the 2021 season and reached the 20,000-yard total during Week 3’s game against the Denver Broncos.
It took 77 games for Matthew Stafford to reach that 20,000-yard number with the Rams, but he was the first to do so with multiple franchises. With an NFL MVP, Super Bowl, and Comeback Player of the Year Award under his belt, there are still chances for him to create more reasons why he should be in Canton once he hangs up his cleats.
Until then, the 38-year-old quarterback continues to dominate as one of the reasons the Rams are considered one of the legitimate contenders to win the Super Bowl this season. It will be intriguing to see how many passing yards Stafford can reach as he sits in sixth place all-time behind the following players:
Tom Brady
Drew Brees
Peyton Manning
Brett Favre
Aaron Rodgers
