Chelsea have yet to agree a new contract with Levi Colwill despite holding discussions with the player and his camp, according to the Daily Mail reporter Kieran Gill.
Writing in his Chelsea Confidential column, Gill said that an extension could potentially be put off until Colwill’s performances improve:
“I have heard Colwill has held talks. However, as of last week when I spoke to a source about his situation, a new deal has not yet been agreed. Besides, announcing an extension for a defender would be tricky when the team have been conceding for fun of late.”

Colwill’s fitness has been a concern
Explaining why the centre-back didn’t start against Arsenal earlier this month, manager Xabi Alonso said that he wasn’t 100% fit:
“Fitness. Levi had a little thing during the week, so we wanted not to take a risk at this stage of the season.”
Colwill has, though, featured regularly since the defeat to the Gunners at the Emirates, so it is up for debate whether an injury has played a part in his poor performances in recent games.
Chelsea do like selling homegrown players
As some fans have pointed out, the Blues have been reluctant to hand academy graduates lucrative contract extensions in the past. They prefer to offload them to make a pure profit.
The likes of Mason Mount, Conor Gallagher and Trevoh Chalobah are just some of those who have been victims of that strategy.
Colwill’s situation may well be different, though, and if his form does improve over the coming weeks and months, there will be a massive clamour for him to sign on the dotted line. For now, it looks like negotiations have stalled with no resolution having been found.
