Liverpool are interested in signing Besiktas captain Orkun Kokcu, according to reports.

Turkish-Football.com claim that sources have told them that the Reds have “made enquiries” for the playmaker.

Kokcu has had a strong start to the 2026/27 campaign, having scored 4 goals and provided 4 assists in his first 12 appearances.

The 25-year-old also impressed last season, bagging double digits for both goals and assists.

Why is Kokcu being targeted?

There is a possibility that the Turkish international is being considered as a potential replacement for Florian Wirtz.

Kokcu can play as either a no.8 or no.10, and his arrival may allow Dominik Szoboszlai to be deployed further forward.

Wirtz has been heavily criticised for his performances at the start of this campaign, and while there is no indication that the German will be sold anytime soon, there are many who believe he should be dropped from the starting lineup.

It is still too early to write him off, but it does appear as if Liverpool are looking at possible contingency plans if Wirtz continues to struggle.

Besiktas will reject any bid from Liverpool in January

Turkish-Football.com report that Kokcu’s current team have already decided that they will not listen to offers for their player midway through the season.

The midfielder is regarded as a very important member of the first-team squad, with Besiktas hoping to mount a title challenge.

Of course, every player has their price, and if new sporting director Julian Ward does decide to add more depth to the midfield during the January transfer window, it seems Kokcu is one of the names that is currently under serious consideration.
