New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye is getting lots of criticism after committing a strange fumble midway through the first quarter of Sunday’s Week 3 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Without pressure from Jaguars defenders, Maye lost control of the football while releasing the throw. Jaguars’ defensive lineman DaVon Hamilton recovered the loose ball for a seven-yard loss. As always, this clip started circulating on social media, and fans can’t stop roasting Maye.

“I have no clue what is going on with Drake Maye. He’s prob been the worst qb in the NFL since game 1 of last playoffs I can’t explain this,” another reacted.
“Might be the worst QB to play the game,” one wrote.
On the need for balance regarding Maye’s decision-making, offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels said: “We want him to be aggressive, but we also want him to be smart, and we want him to do both of those things, and we don’t think that is too much to ask. We keep hearing Mike Vrabel use the term decisive when he talks about Maye.”
The 2024 first-round pick has thrown five interceptions in his first three games this season. This is quite a turnaround from his 2025 campaign, when Maye threw eight total interceptions and finished as the MVP runner-up.
