A senior Tottenham star, who has been identified by Roberto De Zerbi as one of the most crucial pieces of his ongoing project, is attracting interest from two of the biggest clubs in the Premier League.
The conversation surrounding Spurs has shifted rapidly from one of ambition and excitement to one of crisis very quickly, in light of the Lilywhites’ poor start to the season.
Despite spending big money to reinforce their squad in the summer window, Tottenham are still winless from their first five Premier League games and sit at the bottom of the table.

Tottenham captain Micky van de Ven is wanted by Liverpool and Man United
It was reported last week that Liverpool are looking to take advantage of Spurs’ struggles and poach Micky van de Ven in January.
This has now been backed up by CaughtOffside, who say that the Reds have their eyes firmly set on the Spurs captain as they search for an heir to Virgil van Dijk.
Liverpool’s interest in Van de Ven is described as ‘significant’, with the Dutchman said to fit the profile of the defender Andoni Iraola’s men are looking for.
Interestingly, the report says that the Merseyside club have also been joined in the race for the Spurs man by Man United, who are assessing the 25-year-old as well as several other left centre-back options.
Van de Ven’s age and Premier League experience make him an attractive option for both clubs, who are ‘closely monitoring’ the defender ahead of the January window.

Spurs will make any deal for Van de Ven difficult
CaughtOffside point out that the biggest problem for United and Liverpool is that Spurs have plenty of leverage, with the centre-back signing a long-term contract in the summer.
It is revealed that Van de Ven feels at home at Tottenham and believes in the direction the club are headed under De Zerbi.
Spurs are expected to make any deal for the former Wolfsburg man ‘difficult and expensive’, with sources suggesting that an £80m-£90m valuation looks plausible.
