Hull City look set to be without midfielder Tim Iroegbunam for a spell after the summer signing aggravated an existing groin injury, which almost saw his move to the MKM Stadium in the summer scuppered.

‌

Iroegbunam impressed off the bench at Newcastle United earlier this month, when he was introduced at half-time with the Tigers 2-0 down on Tyneside, almost fighting back to earn what would have been a deserved point, and he played through the pain barrier.

‌

That performance looked to have earned him a first start when City return to Premier League action on Sunday week against his former club, Everton, but the 23-year-old is now a major doubt and could be sidelined for much of October, Hull Live understands.

‌

The news will come as a hammer blow to boss Sergej Jakirovic, who will continue to watch the ongoing international fixtures with concern that his stars all return unscathed from a hectic period, with some countries playing four games in a short period of time.

Losing Iroegbunam comes at a time when Hidemasa Morita is fighting to get fit after he arrived in pre-season with an existing calf injury. It's hoped the Japan international will get some minutes on Friday when City host Sheffield United in a behind-closed-doors friendly at the MKM Stadium.

City are also set to find out the prognosis on another summer signing, Elias Ansah, when he heads to see a specialist on his back injury next month. The striker was signed by City with the existing problem, with the club prepared to wait for him to get fully fit, knowing they had cover up front after the arrivals of Mohamed-Ali Cho, Robinho Vaz and Joe Gelhardt.

It's understood that Ansah is set to see a specialist in around 10 days' time, and the outcome of that will likely determine whether or not his return to training will be within two weeks or be set for a longer spell out, which is thought to be around two months.
