Liverpool Women break Anfield derby hoodoo

**Liverpool Women have finally broken Everton’s Anfield hoodoo after six games.**

Gareth Taylor’s side suffered five consecutive home losses to their neighbours from across Stanley Park prior to Sunday’s latest Women’s Super League derby clash.

Beata Olsson opened the scoring for the Reds in the fourth minute at a corner to record the fastest WSL goal in a Merseyside derby with a glancing header.

The Sweden international’s goal was followed up by compatriot Cornelia Kapocs, who earlier had seen an effort cleared on the line by Blues midfielder Ruby Mace.

Kapocs produced a shot on the turn in front of The Kop to wrap up victory and see Liverpool overtake Scott Phelan’s charges to fifth position in the WSL table.

It is the first time the hosts racked up consecutive wins over Everton since 2014 and marks a continuation of a strong start with just one defeat in their first four WSL games.

“We felt that last season the result we had here was harsh on us,” said Taylor.

“I think if you look at their expected goals in that game it was really, really low \[but\] everything they hit went in.

“I’m really pleased today because there are moments of the game when you’re 1-0 up where probably that anxiety I talked about comes in a little bit again.

“But I feel with the players, they trust the process.

“We keep working in the way we do, we train it every single day and now we’re starting to see the rewards, which is really promising.”
