Romano Reveals Whether Man Utd Have Made “Direct” Approach For Carrick’s Replacement

Man Utd are “not in direct conversation” with any coach about replacing Michael Carrick, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Reports in the Italian media have already suggested that contact has been made with former Chelsea and Tottenham manager Antonio Conte, but speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said:
“As of today, Man Utd have not made any movement to contact other coaches. Man Utd are not in direct negotiation or in direct conversation with coaches or with their representatives. So, at the moment, it is completely quiet and will stay quiet for the next weeks and, they hope, months.”
“We are in a results business, and so results are always needed, but Man Utd maintain their confidence in Michael Carrick as a club. Obviously, they cannot be happy, everyone at the club, Carrick himself, everyone, with the recent results, but Man Utd believe that with some time, balance is arriving.”
“The midfield was completely rebuilt over the summer. So when you add three new players in a key position like the midfield, it sometimes needs to create that chemistry, and so Man Utd are working on that.”
Carrick is under pressure
Even if the Red Devils are not considering other managers, the current head coach knows that results will need to improve after the international break.
One win from five Premier League fixtures is not the start that anyone was expecting, and Carrick’s team will be facing a winless Tottenham Hotspur at home in their next game. If United can’t secure all three points in that match, Carrick’s position will come under even more scrutiny.

The Man Utd boss is among the favourites to lose his job
Bookmakers have Carrick as second favourite to leave his post. They have placed odds of 5/2 on the 45-year-old being the next Premier League manager to be sacked.
Roberto De Zerbi is currently the leading contender for the axe, while the likes of Fulham’s Alvaro Arbeloa, Crystal Palace’s Pierre Sage and Coventry City’s Frank Lampard make up the rest of the top five.
