Alexander Isak has returned to Liverpool’s AXA Training Centre for assessment after picking up a thigh injury on international duty with Sweden. Graham Potter confirmed the news, explaining that the club is working through the details of the Alexander Isak injury alongside its own medical staff. The forward had opened the scoring in Sweden’s 2-1 Nations League win, converting his goal against Romania in style. He was then stamped on late in the game and left with a bloodied toe.

Graham Potter Confirms Official Assessment and Medical Decision
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Potter gave supporters the clearest picture yet of what happened. “He’s got a small problem with his thigh,” he said, before adding that the timing has made things awkward given Liverpool’s packed fixture list. “It’s not a big one but because of the amount of games we’ve got in a small space of time, he won’t be able to make those.”
Potter explained how the problem developed after the final whistle rather than during it. “It was during the game. Like anything, you sometimes get bumps and bruises in the game, you might think it’s a bit of a dead leg or something. But actually as the 24 hours, 48 hours after the game, not quite what you think.” Once Sweden’s staff had checked him over, the picture changed. “Unfortunately after getting it checked out, it’s a little bit more than what you think during the match. He has to miss the rest of the camp.”
Potter was also keen to stress that the process followed normal channels between club and country. “Our medical team has been in contact with the club. Obviously it’s our decision in the first place because of his status, in terms of his injury. Once that’s the case, we have to inform everybody. That’s just normal.”
Squad Impact and Tactical Options at Anfield
Losing Isak, even for what Potter describes as a minor issue, still stings for a Liverpool side leaning on him heavily this season. His manager was frank about the gap he leaves. “Not a big one but it’s frustrating for him and obviously for us. It is what it is but we move forward with the players we have.”
There has already been debate over Isak’s workload since he arrived at Anfield, and this setback will only sharpen those concerns over his workload.
Potter was clear that nobody in the squad is being asked to replicate him. “We’ve got a really big squad that we believe in. Clearly there’s not another Alexander Isak, that’s obvious.”
“In an ideal world, we want all our players available but the reality is we don’t have Alex for this game. Clearly whoever comes in, we’re not going to ask them to be Alex. They just need to be themselves in the best way they can.”
AXA Training Centre Timeline and Next Steps
Isak is now back on Merseyside, where Liverpool’s medical staff will carry out their own evaluation of the Alexander Isak injury at the AXA Training Centre.
