Good morning, Broncos Country! With such a great comeback win, I thought I’d select my favorite play from each phase of the Denver Broncos comeback win over the Los Angeles Rams last night.
Frankly, it was a game Denver should not have won. The Rams had twice as many first downs, outgained the Broncos 482-257, and held nearly a 10 minute advantage in time of possession. Yet, they lost the turnover battle and had nearly three times as many penalties as Denver did. It just goes to show how deadly both can be to winning in the NFL.
Each phase of the ball at a big play that I picked and I feel each fed into the momentum swing to led to Denver’s victory.
Bo Nix and the offense had to make a lot of plays in the second half to complete the comeback, but the most impressive came in the third quarter on a two-point conversion. They had just scored their first points of the game and needed a two-point conversion to make it a one score game. If they miss that conversion its not a game-killer, but the momentum they achieved with the insane throw and insane catch gave the whole team a spark. This was the moment I thought, “Okay, this team is going to comeback aren’t they?”
By all accounts, the defense had a bad night. Where they made up for is with the big game-changing plays. It seemed like Talanoa Hufanga was in on nearly all of them in the fourth quarter. He finished with a sack and two interceptions late and none bigger than the pick six. An obvious choice.
There were several good special teams plays. Jeremy Crawshaw had a create corner kick and Kolbe Katsis had a nice return, but the play I feel was a momentum-swinging game changer was the Que Robinson tackle. It was a huge hit and fired up the crowd and the team. You could feel the momentum swinging in the moment. Loved it.
