After the Washington Commanders got their first win of the season on Sunday, there’s some renewed hope within an organization that has been forced to move forward without their starting QB, Jayden Daniels, for at least a few weeks. For now, the Commanders are simply trying to steady the ship and build on the momentum they found this weekend. Yet, the front office isn’t satisfied with their first win; now they’re trying to make other upgrades to the roster.

One area the Commanders are looking for more from is their backfield, which is led by Jacory Croskey-Merritt and Rachaad White. Sixth-round rookie Kaytron Allen fills out the backfield. They also have a pair of rushers on the practice squad, Robert Henry Jr. and Craig Reynolds.
Yet, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the Commanders are now expected to sign running back Austin Ekeler back to their roster too. Ekeler recently worked out for the Carolina Panthers and has been cleared for action following last season’s torn Achilles.
After White suffered a shoulder injury in Sunday’s win, the Commanders felt like they needed a bit more depth in the backfield, and this time, they turned to someone familiar. Ekeler played in 14 games for the Commanders across the past two seasons, rushing for 410 yards and four touchdowns on 91 attempts. He also added 40 receptions for 404 receiving yards. If nothing else, the 31-year-old will add more reliability on third downs
