Ja’Marr Chase is already one of the greatest wide receivers in Bengals history. In just 81 games now, he’s shattered single-season records and is on pace to own Bengals career receiving records sooner than the legends who came before. From his welcome party as a rookie against the Vikings to his many, many, many griddies along the way, Chase has shown that he’s the top receiver in the NFL. Seems like sitting out the 2020 COVID season didn’t affect him too much.
Heading into 2026, Chase owns single-season marks for the club, much like his quarterback. As for the career records, he’s within striking distance of one and still a ways away from another; let’s just say that.
Week 1 was not exactly his best output in his career. In fact, it was his lowest target share since 2023 and his lowest fantasy output since his rookie season. In total, the Buccaneers held Chase to just two catches for 12 yards and no touchdowns. Then, he was back to his old self against the Texans with two incredible touchdowns. Then, he kept up the pace with a strong showing in Week 3 against the Steelers.

Receptions
Career Record: 751
Chase’s Total: 538
Chase’s Pace: 214 receptions away, 6.6 receptions per game: 32.4 games (Week 2 in 2028)
Heading into 2026, Chase owned the Bengals record for receptions per game with 6.7. The next closest are A.J. Green and Terrell Owens (in one season) at 5.1. As of now, the career record is held by Chad Johnson (spoiler alert, he’s all over these leaderboards). The Bengals’ offense tends to go through Chase, hence the high catch-per-game mark. Considering he’s the top receiver in the NFL, it only makes sense. Just get your best player the ball and let him cook.
Only two catches against the Buccaneers push back the target game to Week 2 in 2028. Last week, he finished with seven catches against the Texans, then he added nine against the Steelers. The target stayed put at Week 2 in 2028, but he is inching closer to being able to challenge it by the end of 2027.

The current record holder for single-season receptions is, as you’d guess, Chase. His 2024 campaign was the single-most dominant season in Bengals history, breaking the records for receptions, yards, and tying the touchdown record (more on them later).
Chase needed to average 7.5 receptions per game to one-up his record. Through two games, he had nine. Against the Steelers, he doubled that, so his pace is now up over 100, as it should be. He still has a little work to do, but a few 10-catch games will certainly help out his case.

Just as is the case with Burrow and his pursuit of career records, the yardage mark may be a bit out of reach, at least for this year. Johnson owns the record by a sizable margin (Green has 9,430). Johnson does have the benefit of longevity, playing 151 games in stripes. Remember, Week 1 against the Bucs was Chase’s 79th.
With a solid game against the Texans, the target is still toward the end of 2028. Against the Steelers, he finished with 98, so it will make putting the record within focus for 2027 a bit easier. We fully anticipate Chase stacking a few 100+ yard performances as the season gets going to make that mark more attainable.

Once again, Chase owns the single-season yards record for the Bengals thanks to that incredible 2024 campaign. In order for Chase to one-up himself, he’d need to average over 100 yards per game…naturally. He has 26 games with at least 100 yards, seven of which came last year.
Chase is off to a slower start, so his pace is still a tad low. Stacking a few 100-yard games will certainly help. Either way, there’s plenty of football yet to be played.
Touchdowns
Career Record: 66
Chase’s Total: 57
Chase’s Pace: 10 touchdowns away, 0.7 touchdowns per game: 14.2 games (Week 1 in 2027)
Now for the attainable career record. Heading into the 2026 season, Johnson owns the touchdown record with a whopping 66. Green came up just short with 65 in that unfortunately forgettable 2020 season. Of all of the Bengals receiving records, this one is the surest to fall in 2026.
In terms of his career average, Chase “only” scores 0.7 touchdowns per game, easily the most in Bengals history. He isn’t reliant on Burrow’s health to be great, but in the three healthy Burrow seasons, he scored 39 touchdowns (0.85 touchdowns per game), compared to 15 in 2023 and 2025 (0.47 touchdowns per game).
Chase was held out of the end zone in Week 1, but scored twice in Week 2, and once in Week 3. The target got moved up to the beginning of 2027, but there is a good possibility that Chase is honored as the new franchise leader in touchdowns toward the end of this year.

Finally, Chase shares the single-season touchdown record with Carl Pickens‘ 1995 season. Wild to think the Bengals went 7-9 that year.
Obviously, Chase would need to average just over one touchdown per game to own the record by the end of the year. He has 13 games with multiple touchdowns, and three of those feature three touchdowns.
Chase’s pace as of now has him stacking up 14 more touchdowns, or one per game, so he could tie his single-season mark and would begin his journey of standing head and shoulders above anyone else in terms of his career mark.
