Chelsea and Liverpool are reportedly competing for the signature of Inter Milan centre-back Alessandro Bastoni, with TEAMtalk claiming both Premier League clubs are eyeing a move in 2027.
Bastoni’s Rise at Inter Milan
The Italy international arrived at Inter from Atalanta in 2017 and progressed through the youth ranks. Spells back at Atalanta and at Parma gave him senior experience before his Inter debut in 2019.
Since then, the 27-year-old has become a key figure during a hugely successful period for the club, collecting three Serie A titles, two Coppa Italia wins and three Supercoppa Italiana trophies. He also featured heavily in last season’s Scudetto triumph and has started this campaign strongly, playing in all five league matches so far.
Why Chelsea and Liverpool Want Bastoni
According to the report, Chelsea admire his defensive quality and ability on the ball, believing he suits a back three under Xabi Alonso.
Liverpool, meanwhile, are said to be reviewing several defensive targets as they plan for life after Virgil van Dijk. The 6ft 2in defender has reportedly been on their radar for some time, with extensive background checks already completed.
Bastoni Transfer Fee and Barcelona Interest
Barcelona are reportedly his preferred destination, yet intermediaries have told both English clubs that he would also consider the Premier League. Manchester City are also said to be keen.
Inter are under no pressure to sell, though TEAMtalk suggests they could listen to bids around £70m.

Former Inter boss Simone Inzaghi once labelled him world-class, and it is hard to argue with that description. A left-sided centre-back who is comfortable in possession is a rare asset, so £70m feels reasonable in the current market.
