Washington Commanders Signing Veteran Playmaker Ahead of Week 4 vs. Indianapolis Colts 1
The Washington Commanders have been searching for some positivity and were able to find some after a 33-31 home win on Sunday over the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks. However, the team has been ravaged by injuries and is now 1-2 heading into Week 4. While the offense has been able to put up points, they are looking to be more productive offensively.
The team has been looking to add some talent to the roster and appears to be doing just that. Let’s take a look at who they are reportedly getting prepared to sign and what it means for the Washington Commanders going forward.

Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo of NFL Network are reporting that the Washington Commanders are signing veteran running back Austin Ekeler to the team’s official 53-man roster pending a physical. The team has been one of the better teams rushing the football this season as they rank eighth in the sport with 132.0 rushing yards per game. However, they have only found the end zone once rushing the football through three games.
Ekeler spent the previous two seasons with the Washington Commanders and was limited to 14 games (eight starts) before suffering a torn Achilles tendon last season. In those 14 games, he recorded 91 rushing attempts for 410 yards (4.5 yards per carry) with four rushing touchdowns as well as 40 catches on 48 targets for 404 yards (10.1 yards per reception) without a receiving touchdown.
As a result of this signing, the Washington Commanders will have potentially four running backs on the roster:
Austin Ekeler
Jacory Croskey-Merritt
Rachaad White
Kaytron Allen
It will be interesting to see how the Washington Commanders’ offense looks with Austin Ekeler back with the team, especially in his first few games following the Achilles tear.
