The Philadelphia Eagles are no longer undefeated after losing to the Chicago Bears in a Monday Night Football matchup at Soldier Field in Chicago, 27-7.
Philly's loss even had backup quarterback Andy Dalton's fingerprints on it, as he made one of the worst plays of the game when he threw an interception in the second quarter while stepping in for starter Jalen Hurts.
Dalton was called on to orchestrate the Eagles' attack on the field when Hurts momentarily left the game to get checked for a concussion following a big hit from Bears linebacker D'Marco Jackson. The veteran Dalton was picked off in the back of the end zone with 6:14 left in the first half by Chicago rookie defensive back Dillon Thieneman.
The 38-year-old Dalton (will turn 39 on Oct. 29) spoke about his blunder following the loss.
“I can’t turn over the ball in that situation. You’re in the moment. You’re not worried if you’re coming out. I apologized to him because I put them in a bad spot,” Dalton said, via John Clark of NBC Philadelphia.
Dalton spent the last three seasons with the Carolina Panthers before getting traded to the Eagles in March for a seventh-rounder in 2027.
It was certainly not best way to make one's debut with a new team, but Dalton just have to be better the next time the Eagles needed him to step in.
While Hurts was later cleared to return, the Eagles struggled to get anything going offensively. Hurts finished with just 153 passing yards with zero touchdowns and an interception on 16-of-25 pass completions, while rushing for 25 yards and a score on four carries.
