The transfer window may not be open but that hasn't stopped Manchester United from conducting new business. And from a direct rival, too, after the latest addition to the ranks at Carrington was confirmed.
Michael Carrick could do with all the help he can get at present following a lacklustre start to the season. That has been further complicated by injury concerns during the international break.
It's not all bad news at Old Trafford, however, as a potential star of the next generation signs on for United. Mirror Football discusses all that and more in the latest round-up of this week's headlines around the club.
New signing confirmed
United have announced the signing of winger Isaac Konde, who has made the move from Liverpool. The teenager will link up with his new club's academy in the hopes of a first-team breakthrough, just as JJ Gabriel looks set to head for the exit.
The deal isn't entirely settled just yet, however, with The Athletic reporting Liverpool are seeking millions in compensation. Konde will reportedly be offered professional terms turns 17 in October but has signed a scholar deal for the time being.
A club statement read: "Manchester United have agreed the signing of winger Isaac Konde. The talented youngster has joined after leaving Liverpool.
"The 16-year-old had his first taste of Under-18 football at Liverpool, featuring regularly towards the end of the 2025/26 campaign. Everyone at the club would like to welcome Isaac to United and wish him the very best of luck."
Konde, 16, is a versatile winger who can play off either flank. He recorded one assist in six appearances for Liverpool's under-18s last term, where he enjoyed greater prominence toward the end of the season.
The move follows United's recent track record of recruiting young talents from rival club. Just last week, the club confirmed the arrivals of central midfielders David Eze and Karim Cassim after they left rivals Manchester City.
United urged to raid City
That may not end up being the only signing United make from City after Gabriel Agbonlahor suggested Carrick could raid their neighbours in light of recent developments. The football world is still reeling from the news that City were found guilty on 114 of their 115 charges for Premier League spending breaches.
As things stand, there has been no announcement of City's punishment or whether the club intends to appeal. However, an exodus of players is expected at the Etihad should their penalty be so severe that it results in possible relegation.

If that is the case, Agbonlahor recommended United grab two talents in particular. Speaking on talkSPORT when asked which players United should seek to sign from their arch-nemeses, Agbonlahor said: "[Gianluigi] Donnarumma – I have been watching [Senne] Lammens.
"Poor at the World Cup, cost Belgium in that game, and I think he has not been great this season. Look at the own goal – Lisandro Martinez against Fulham. He has got to be better with that save. I am not convinced in him.
"I will say Donnarumma to Manchester United. Manchester United will go and nick their number one goalkeeper."
He continued: "Elliot Anderson – Manchester United wanted you, now you go there. Manchester United – you wanted Elliot Anderson, go and get him for maybe half the price."
The arrival of Anderson, who made a £116m move from Nottingham Forest in the summer, seems the less likely of the two given United's summer was heavily fixated on adding midfielders. However, many fans might like the idea of seeing a goalkeeper of Donnarumma's calibre at the club following his £26m switch from PSG last year.
