Former Premier League striker Gabby Agbonlahor says Jeremy Doku would be a great signing for Arsenal. The winger has been at Manchester City for the last three years but his and the future of many other players at Etihad Stadium appears up on the air after the club were found guilty of breaching 114 financial rules.

‌

That is the verdict from an eight-week hearing that took place in late 2024 to determine the outcome of an investigation by the Premier League that started eight years ago. However, the process is not over just yet with City planning to appeal.

‌

The punishment for their breaches is expected to be known before then, however, which could see a few star players plan to move on. Doku is arguably one of those with his end product starting to improve significantly and Agbonlahor is of the belief he is a different option that Mikel Arteta needs.

‌

He said on talkSPORT: "Then I am going Jeremy Doku [to] Arsenal. Arsenal need a left-winger. They need someone, different options. I think that would be a perfect signing for Arsenal. Just go in there, Doku. Come on.”

In the wake of City's guilty verdict, it was actually Erling Haaland that was linked with a sensational move to Arsenal.

However, the huge finances involved in both paying his wages and sizeable transfer fee make a move being explored highly unlikely, particularly as City may not actually face sanctions that force them into marquee sales for some time.

While Haaland is highly unlikely to join, Doku is a more realistic signing. The Gunners tried to sign a similar player over the summer in Vinicius Jr, though the Real Madrid star is a level above Doku currently, but he opted to stay in the Spanish capital.

With Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard leaving, summer signing Christos Tzolis is the only natural option that can play on the left.

Doku would give Arsenal needed pace in their attack but he has not been able to show much off that or anything this season due to a calf issue suffered in the Community Shield defeat to Arsenal.

He made his return in City's chaotic 5-3 win over Sunderland before the international break with a bright 15-minute cameo. Doku leaving Etihad Stadium may actually not be too far-fetched with Iliman Ndiaye joining from Everton while he was out injured.

The 24-year-old has remained in Manchester over the domestic pause with the aim of reclaiming his starting XI spot for City's trip to Anfield to face Liverpool on Sunday, October 11.

Arsenal kick off the game week over 24 hours earlier as unbeaten Leeds United visit Emirates Stadium for the early kick-off.

Arteta's side will be aiming to bounce back from a humbling defeat to Brighton earlier this month but they may have to do so without some key players as both Ezri Konsa and Kai Havertz have suffered issues while away on national team duty.
