Dominik Szoboszlai is growing in influence at Liverpool, having been named as part of the new-look leadership group under Andoni Iraola.
Already the captain of Hungary since 2022, the 25-year-old is used to being a loud and influential voice in the dressing room and will now take on a similar role with the Reds.
Though his duties are unlikely to stretch to suggesting new signings to sporting director Julian Ward, Szoboszlai‘s opinion on recruitment may occasionally be sought, and if it is, the Hungarian has now revealed the player he would probably urge Liverpool to buy.

Szoboszlai wants to play with Cristiano Ronaldo
Sadly for Liverpool fans, Szoboszlai’s dream teammate is simply never going to happen at Anfield. That’s because, as he told JD Sports during a quickfire question video on TikTok, the player he most wants to play with is Cristiano Ronaldo.
“Cristiano Ronaldo I would love to play with him,” he answered, when asked for the one player, past or present, who he would most like to share a pitch with.
Szoboszlai also named Ronaldo as his football idol growing up, saying: “My idol was Cristiano Ronaldo and still is.”
There was some more love for legendary players of Liverpool’s rivals too, as Szoboszlai named Erling Haaland alongside Mohamed Salah as the ‘standout’ footballers of his career so far.

“Only one? So the two most known and best players I’ve played with were Mo Salah and Erling Haaland,” he said.
On the hardest opponent of his career so far Szoboszlai went with Modric: “The hardest opponent I would say Luka Modric,” he said. “I always say that and I won’t change.”
Meanwhile, there was a nod to Liverpool’s two clashes with Galatasaray last season, as the Reds’ No. 8 picked RAMS Park as having the best atmosphere he’d played in other than Anfield.
“The best atmosphere, I would say Galatasaray. It was crazy, it was something else,” he said.
No matter how hard Szoboszlai pushes for it to happen, we do not think Ward will agree to signing a 41-year-old Ronaldo. Then again, the Portuguese legend may well be playing in five years’ time when Szoboszlai’s contract at Liverpool ends, so maybe this dream could still come true in the next chapter of his career. You never know.
