Jeremy Jacquet has revealed he wasn't completely satisfied with his performance for France against Belgium, despite earning rave reviews on his senior international debut.

‌

It followed the Liverpool defender being given a chance by new head coach Zinedine Zidane, who had clearly been impressed with the star's start to life at Anfield since moving in the summer transfer window.

‌

In his time on Merseyside so far, Jacquet has looked calm and composed, something that translated onto the international stage with his debut against Belgium.

‌

The French media all had the defender as one of the highest-rated players from the match, with many believing this is just the start for someone so promising at this stage of their career.

In the end, Jacquet helped Les Bleus keep a clean sheet, while a late strike from Michael Olise handed the team all three points in a positive start to the UEFA Nations League campaign.

While the plaudits continue to pour in for the star, he has shown that he is not happy with where he is at, as he told TF1 after the match: "A clean sheet is the best you can get as a defender. Maxence [Lacroix] and I had quite a few defensive situations, so we can only be happy.

"My performance tonight? Satisfied, yes, but not completely. When I think back on two or three attacking opportunities, I realize I can do much better. In particular, I can find the back line more quickly when winning the ball back. Despite two or three turnovers, I'm generally happy: we're leaving with the three points."

It highlights a player who is striving to get better and better, with an attitude that will only benefit France and Liverpool moving forward.

The match wasn't just Jacquet's first time playing for France, but also his first time featuring under Zidane, who recently took over the head coach role after the exit of Didier Deschamps.

On the manager, the Liverpool star added: "The coach told me two days beforehand that I would be playing. He's very close to all of us. I can't read his mind, but he gives everyone the opportunity to prove themselves, and everyone has taken their chance.

"He's not afraid to play young players or players with few caps. He talks a lot with the senior players, and when he has something to tell me, he lets me know. Overall, he's very close to the team, and he always speaks calmly when he has a message to deliver."

It's unclear whether Jacquet will be able to establish himself as a regular for the national team under Zidane, but his debut certainly did no harm to his chances moving forward.

There are still two more games where the youngster could feature for Les Bleus again, as clashes with Italy and Belgium await in the coming week.
