Eagles coach Nick Sirianni appeared to be screaming obscenities toward Bears linebacker D’Marco Jackson after a hit on quarterback Jalen Hurts that forced Hurts to leave the game for a concussion evaluation on Monday night. Afterward, Sirianni regretted it.
Sirianni said after the Eagles’ 27-7 loss to the Bears that he doesn’t think Jackson, who was flagged for unnecessary roughness, was trying to make a dirty play.
“You want to always fight for your players and protect your players,” Sirianni said. “I always come away when I have a moment like that with remorse. ‘Man, I shouldn’t have let my emotions get the best of me.’ Those guys are out there trying to make a play. It was close on the sideline. It ended up being a penalty, obviously you never want to see your quarterback get hit like that. But it’s in the heat of the moment, I know nobody is trying to hurt anybody out there, and I always have remorse when I act that way. But I always love fighting for our players. I love our guys. So the emotion of the game probably got the better of me today and I have to learn from that. In that particular moment I have to be more steady in that situation. Be able to move on and go to the next play. I didn’t like how I handled that.”
Sirianni was critical of himself in his post-game comments, saying he got out-coached. After the Eagles’ first loss, Sirianni has some things he needs to work on.
