Manchester City have reportedly been found guilty of 114 breaches of the Premier League’s financial rules.
This is a landmark case for the Premier League, and there has been discussion around all sorts of different punishments.
There has been discussion about points deductions, fines, transfer bans, and even retroactive stripping of titles, points and even compensation for other affected clubs.
Of course, one of those affected clubs could well be Arsenal.
The Gunners and Man City have had their fair share of run-ins over the years, and when you look back, there are no fewer than eight complaints you can viably make for Arsenal.

The eight complaints Arsenal could viably make
Man City’s punishment could be backdated, and if that is the case, you could argue that you want to really dig into the minutiae of this situation.
We’re going as granular as possible here. Rather than simply looking at which seasons may have been affected, our methodology treats every single Manchester City game since the takeover as potentially affected.

That means every City match; in the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup and any other competition, is retrospectively recorded as a 3-0 defeat for City, regardless of the actual result.
From there, the impact can be calculated game by game: how many points City would have lost, how their goal difference would have changed, and how those altered results could have affected league tables and cup competitions. In other words, this isn’t just about saying ‘City’s 2017-18 season was different’ – it goes right down to the individual matches that made up that season.
So, in that case, Arsenal have eight viable complaints to make.
2026 League Cup final result – Overturned and Arsenal crowned winners
2023/24 Premier League season – Man City results wiped and Arsenal crowned champions
2022/23 Premier League season – Man City results wiped and Arsenal crowned champions
2021/22 Premier League season – Man City results wiped – Arsenal finish 4th instead of 5th, securing Champions League qualification
2020/21 Premier League season – Man City results wiped – Arsenal finish 7th instead of 8th, securing Europa League qualification
2018/19 Premier League Season – Man City results wiped – Arsenal finish 4th instead of 5th, securing Champions League qualification
2018 League Cup final result – Overturned and Arsenal crowned winners
2016/17 Premier League season – Man City results wiped – Arsenal finish 4th instead of 5th, securing Champions League qualification
Of course, it’s far-fetched to believe the Premier League will dig into this in such detail, but, with clubs potentially looking for compensation, this is the sort of thing that will be brought up.
With eight viable complaints possible, Arsenal could be in line to receive some more trophies and potentially some sort of financial payout too.
