Tony Bellew took part in a blind rank of former Everton players ahead of last Saturday’s Game4Hope, and was happy to swap out Wayne Rooney as his number one pick when hearing another name.

Game4Hope saw Everton legends and past Liverpool players join forces to take on a World XI, with celebrities also involved. Bellew played for the Merseyside XI.

The game finished 3-2 to the Merseyside XI, with Leighton Baines converting a penalty right at the death.

It was a great day, that saw money raised for Everton In The Community and Shelter in aid of homelessness.

Ahead of the event at a training session, former boxer and big Everton fan Bellew took part in a blind rank of former Everton greats.

Tony Bellew swaps out Wayne Rooney for Seamus Coleman in Everton blind rank challenge

Blind ranks are when one must put players or things into an order of best to worst, but there is no telling who or what is coming.

Bellew was asked to rank former Everton greats, and he gave an interesting response.

First up was Tim Cahill, with Bellew playing it relatively safe and putting him in third place. Mikel Arteta came next, with Bellew putting him fifth.

Bellew then occupied his number one spot upon hearing Wayne Rooney’s name. That was perhaps a slight risk, not knowing who was coming. He then put Romelu Lukaku second.

The last player then made Bellew physically wince, because the only remaining spot was fourth. And that player was Seamus Coleman.

Bellew was then mercifully given a chance to reorder the players, and there was no doubt in his mind that Coleman would be top. He said: “Seamus one, Wazza two, TC three, Romelu four, Mikel five. He’s a hero. He means everything to this club. And he’s my mate and I love him.”

Coleman an Everton legend in every sense of the word

Most Evertonians would probably agree with Bellew’s revised list. There is no doubt about it, Coleman is one of the biggest Everton legends, certainly of the modern era.

Coleman’s story is famous, not just for Everton supporters but even amongst neutrals. Arriving at the club back in 2009 from Sligo Rovers for just £60,000, not too much was expected, but he went on to endear himself to the Goodison faithful with his swashbuckling displays at right-back and commitment to the cause.

He made 435 appearances in total for the club and had it not been for injuries, he likely would have made over 500.

But Coleman – who claimed to have rejected Sheffield United recently – was an incredible servant and someone no one has a bad word to say about, and Bellew’s move in this video clip is lovely to see.
