Former Manchester City footballer Courtney Meppen-Walter has died aged 32. Bury Football Club, one of a number of clubs he played for, confirmed his sudden death in a statement issued on social media on Tuesday.
Meppen-Walter, a father who lived in Heywood and who was convicted of killing a brother and sister in a car crash in 2013, was a former England under-18 international. He also played for Carlisle United, Stockport, and went on to play for non-league clubs across the region.
No details surrounding his death have been revealed.
In a statement, Bury FC said: "We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former player Courtney Meppen-Walter, at the age of 32. The thoughts and condolences of everyone at Bury FC are with his family and friends at this incredibly difficult time."

Jailed for killing brother and sister
Meppen-Walter was sentenced in February 2013 for killing a brother and sister in a car crash.
Then aged 18, he was locked up for 16 months after a silver Mercedes Elegance CDI car he was 'showboating in' ploughed into a red Nissan Micra while travelling nearly twice the 30mph speed limit in Cheetham Hill.

The impact killed Kulwant Singh, 32, who was driving the Micra and his 37-year old sister Ravel Kaur who was a front seat passenger, both from Salford.
The victims came to the UK in 2001 to start a new life after fleeing persecution by the Taliban, Manchester Crown Court heard.
Meppen-Walter was released after serving just four months of his sentence. At the time he posted a message on social media saying: ''I wish there was a switch I could click. To turn back time. And take back everything that happened - Amen."
He went on to be released by Manchester City.
Appearances for Carlisle United Ashton United and Chorley followed, before he went on to play for Stockport County and a number of non-league teams in the north west, including Radcliffe
He signed for Bury in December aged 24 before being released after a non-league loan in 2025. It's understood he was without a club at the time of his death.
