Adding pace to the team was a big part of Liverpool’s squad improvement over the summer, with Victor Munoz and Bradley Barcola eventually arriving to sate that appetite.
When they have been at their best, the Reds have had extremely quick players going forward, and the hope will be that Munoz and Barcola can lead the way for another great Liverpool team. Rio Ngumoha can play his part in that as well, and though speed is not his biggest attribute, he is certainly no slouch.
The 18-year-old knows pace when he sees it, and while building his perfect Liverpool player during the international break he has named the player who, given the choice of anyone, he would choose as the fastest in the Reds’ history.

Ngumoha thinks Sadio Mane is the fastest Liverpool player
Ngumoha is away with England during the September international window, but he has also found the time to film a quickfire video with Pro:Direct Soccer on TikTok.
Asked to pick any player from Liverpool’s history to fit a series of attributes, Ngumoha shows off his knowledge by selecting Sadio Mane for speed.
Although the teenager arrived at Liverpool in 2024, two years after Mane had left for Bayern Munich, as a boyhood Reds fan he clearly enjoyed watching the Senegal legend race down the left wing.
He also picked Thiago Alcantara and Steven Gerrard, who both departed before his arrival, with Thiago chosen for ‘brains’ and Gerrard for his penalty-taking.

The former captain may have been disappointed to lose out to Mohamed Salah for shooting, with Ngumoha also choosing the Egyptian King for skills.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is his choice for passing, while Virgil van Dijk is the only one of Ngumoha’s current teammates to get a mention, with the former Chelsea prospect picking his captain’s heading and defending as part of his perfect player.
