**Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s influence on Everton’s encouraging start to the season hasn’t only been about what he does with the ball.**
A new stat offers a pretty good indication of the work he is getting through without it. According to Gradient Sports, no Premier League player has registered more total pressures this season than Dewsbury-Hall, who leads their data with 330.
For a player operating in an advanced midfield role for [Everton](https://readeverton.com/), that is a hugee workload.
The figure fits with what Everton supporters have been watching since the 28-year-old arrived at the Hill Dickinson.
Dewsbury-Hall was already known for his energy, but his willingness to close down opponents has become an important part of David Moyes’ midfield.
Much of that work is easy to miss. Closing a defender, cutting off a passing option or forcing an opponent to move the ball more quickly doesn’t appear on a conventional scoresheet.
Do it often enough, though, and the numbers begin to show it. Gradient Sports puts Dewsbury-Hall on 330 pressures, more than any other Premier League player in its figures so far this season.
There is an important qualification. Definitions of a pressure can differ between data providers, so the 330 shouldn’t simply be compared with numbers produced elsewhere. Within the Gradient Sports data, however, Dewsbury-Hall sits at the top.
There is obviously more to his game than work rate. Everton signed a midfielder capable of carrying the ball, creating chances and contributing in the final third. But Moyes has always valued players prepared to work when they don’t have it.
On that basis, Dewsbury-Hall certainly isn’t leaving much out there.
