Liverpool Star’s Father Warns Reds His Son Could Play “Somewhere Else” Next Season Unless Something Changes

Carlos Mac Allister has urged Liverpool to offer his son a new contract before the end of the season.

Alexis’s father is also his representative, and he told ESPN Argentina (quotes via TNT Sports) that the midfielder will consider his options next summer if a renewal is not put on the table:

“I think he showed that he deserves it – to be renewed. And if it can’t be done in Liverpool, it will be somewhere else, because it’s not that there won’t be someone interested in him. But there are philosophies, ideas and decisions that are made in the club.”

Carlos was, however, keen to emphasise that his son will be 100% committed to the Merseyside club no matter what happens off the pitch:

“In life, you live with passion and play with passion from minute 1 to minute 90, and you never let people down. You can play well, badly or so-so, but from minute 1 to minute 90 you put everything, everything you have, and that’s what Alexis is going to do in Liverpool in every game.”

When does Mac Allister’s contract expire?

The midfielder signed a 5-year deal when he moved from Brighton for £35m in the summer of 2023, so he will still have another twelve months remaining at the end of the season.

Unlike Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch, Mac Allister was not offered an extension, with the main reason for that being his poor form during the 2025/26 campaign.

He spoke out before the Atletico Madrid match to express his unhappiness that the club have not come to the negotiating table.

Will Liverpool reconsider their stance?

Based on Mac Allister’s excellent start to the 2026/27 season, there will be a temptation to revisit the situation, but new sporting director Julian Ward will probably play the waiting game.

After stinking out the place for the best of a year, Mac Allister needs to put in more than a month of good performances to persuade Ward and other decision-makers that he is worthy of another contract.
