Arsenal now working on deal to sign player who just rejected Real Madrid

A centre-back who leaves the biggest academy in Spain and then starts winning in Italy becomes a 2027 problem for everyone else. Clubs plan two windows ahead when the present XI is already patched.

Rejection is not always a closed door. Sometimes it is a player saying he wants minutes before he wants a badge.

Italian reporting that a Premier League side has “made a move” still sits a long way from a signed contract.

TuttoMercatoWeb says Arsenal are already working to sign Como defender Jacobo Ramon after AS reported he is not considering a return to Real Madrid. The Gunners, according to the Italian site, see him as one of the first names on a list to strengthen the defence and want him available to Mikel Arteta in the future.

Ramon, 21, came through Real Madrid’s academy and made six first-team appearances before a sale to Como in the summer of 2025. Spanish coverage last week claimed Madrid wanted him back in 2027 as cover if Antonio Rudiger retires. AS then wrote that his priority is to play and feel important where he is, even if he still feels like a Madridista.

Chelsea have also been linked. No fee has been published.

Asked about a Madrid return, Ramon told Mundo Deportivo on 23 September: “I’m focused on the present.

“I’m very happy at Como and I’m only thinking about doing my best this season, winning a lot of games and getting as far as possible.”

On how hard it is to break into Madrid’s side, he said: “At Real Madrid, you have the best players in the world; playing time isn’t handed out, but last year saw the most debuts.

“Two years ago, I debuted, along with Chema (Andres), Víctor (Munoz), Gonzalo (García)… so many people, and I’m sure more will make their debuts.”

Como finished fourth in Serie A last season and are in the Champions League. Cesc Fabregas’s side sit three points off Roma.

Arsenal’s present centre-back list is the reason the name appears now. William Saliba is targeting a late October return. Ben White, Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapie have all had fitness issues in this window. Ezri Konsa and Jurrien Timber have been managed through international camps. A 21-year-old who already chose minutes over a Bernabeu reunion fits the profile Arteta likes: comfortable on the ball, not in a hurry to sit on a superclub bench.

That is still a 2027 conversation unless Como name a price. Ramon has said he is not thinking beyond this season. Arsenal can work the file. They cannot sign him until he, or his club, decide the present is over.
