Chelsea and Arsenal Track 6ft 5in Centre-Back
Chelsea and Arsenal are reportedly interested in Como defender Jacobo Ramon, according to Spanish outlet AS. The 6ft 5in centre-back has impressed in Serie A since leaving Real Madrid, and two Premier League sides are now said to be monitoring his progress.
Why Chelsea Need Defensive Reinforcements
Chelsea strengthened their defence this summer by signing Maxence Lacroix. Xabi Alonso now has the Frenchman, Wesley Fofana, Josh Acheampong, Levi Colwill and Jorrel Hato to choose from, with Aaron Anselmino available as back-up.
Even so, the Blues have looked vulnerable, shipping 15 goals in seven matches in all competitions. They have conceded more than any other Premier League side this term and collected just one point from their last three league games before the international break. It is understood a new centre-back could therefore be on the agenda next year.
Arsenal’s Interest in Ramon
Arsenal are also keeping tabs on the Spaniard, although they are well stocked at the back. Following William Saliba’s injury, the Gunners signed Ezri Konsa this summer, so a new defender is not an immediate priority.
Real Madrid Clauses and Como’s Valuation
Ramon joined Como from Real Madrid last year, and the Spanish giants retain a 50 per cent sell-on clause along with a buyback option. They reportedly explored a return this summer, but the player declined, as he wanted regular minutes rather than a rotational role.
Transfermarkt values him at around £39m, and his contract runs until 2030. Cesc Fàbregas’s side therefore face no pressure to sell.
Ramon’s Strengths
Ramon is a right-footed defender who is composed in possession, strong in the air and reliable in his defensive work. His height and technical ability make him an appealing profile for any top-flight side.

Ramon looks a shrewd long-term prospect for either club, given his age and potential. Chelsea appear to have the greater need, while Arsenal seem to be keeping their options open. With Real Madrid’s clauses complicating matters, any deal would require careful negotiation, and it will be interesting to see whether either club makes a formal approach.
