Everton have reportedly handed highly-rated academy prospect Francis Boggan his first opportunity to train with David Moyes’ senior squad at just 15 years old.
The England Under-16 international is regarded as one of the brightest young players coming through the Everton academy and has already reached notable milestones during his rapid progress through the age groups.
According to The Talent Hunter, Boggan trained with Everton’s first team for the first time on Tuesday, giving the teenager an early taste of the senior environment at Finch Farm.
Francis Boggan continues rapid Everton rise
Boggan has been playing above his age group for some time.
He became Everton’s youngest-ever Under-18 player late last year when he made his debut at the age of just 14 years and 204 days. The midfielder had already been offered a scholarship two years early, another indication of how highly he is regarded within the academy.
Boggan’s progress has also been recognised internationally, with the youngster representing England at Under-16 level.
There is clearly a considerable distance between training alongside Moyes’ senior players and challenging for a first-team place, particularly at his age. The opportunity nevertheless gives Boggan experience of the standards and demands of Everton’s senior environment.
There is no need to attach any greater significance to it just yet. Being invited into first-team training at 15 is noteworthy enough and represents another step in the development of one of Everton’s most highly-rated academy prospects.
