Alejandro Garnacho has been told he would be in limbo if his Aston Villa transfer doesn’t work out.
Garnacho’s season-long loan at Villa Park from Chelsea hasn’t started well, the former Manchester United winger playing just 31 minutes in Unai Emery’s side so far this season in three substitute appearances in the Premier League.
He was left on the subs’ bench as Villa beat Club Brugge in their Champions League opener.
It has already cast major doubts over whether Villa will activate a clause in the Argentine’s loan deal to make his move from Stamford Bridge permanent in the summer for a fee understood to be around £43m.
Garnacho has already been compared to Harvey Elliott, who joined Villa in a similar deal from Liverpool last season only to play four times in the Premier League as Emery quickly decided he did not want to sign him permanently.
There has also been speculation Garnacho’s loan at Villa could be cut short in January.
But former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink does not see a way back for the 22-year-old under Xabi Alonso.
“I think it will be very difficult for Garnacho to come back, because Chelsea don't really play with wingers at the moment, and he's not a wing-back either,” he said, speaking to MrQ.
“I don't see how or where he can fit in with Alonso’s plans. I think it would be difficult for him if and when he returns to Chelsea.”
