Liverpool Women played their fourth game of the young 2026-27 season in the Super League over the weekend, welcoming Everton to Anfield for a derby match and going home 2-0 winners to leapfrog them past the Blues and into fifth place in the table.
For a team that spent much of last season as one of the relegation favourites, it’s been an outstanding start to the new campaign, with the win against Everton added to an opening day victory over Charlton, a draw against Spurs where they were the better side, and a well fought defeat at defending champions Manchester City.
Their next challenge is Birmingham City in the group phase of the League Cup, where the women won their first match against Sunderland last week and where they will now be favoured now to add to that.
“It’s another quick turnaround and, particularly with the game against Manchester United \[on the weekend\], we just need to get the balance right,” said head coach Gareth Taylor ahead of the match, which kicks off at 7PM GMT this evening with the game being [streamed on LFCTV](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/live-7pm-bst-watch-birmingham-v-liverpool-subway-players-cup).
“It’s a good chance for some of the players to get on the pitch again, like they did against Sunderland last week. We need to recover quickly—and we are going to need everyone we have got and do all the right things in between to make sure we are conditioned right.”
After tonight’s cup match, the women play again in the league on Saturday when they head on the road to face United, who currently sit ninth after a tough start to the season that has already seen them face Arsenal, Chelsea, and London City.
Then, as the men’s team start to report back from international duty, the women break for their own for the first time this season—though for the women it will at least be just a more usual two-week break.
