Chelsea are considering defensive additions if there is anything to be believed about recent reports, and one player supposedly on Chelsea’s radar is currently a part of Thomas Tuchel’s England squad.
Having conceded 12 goals in five Premier League games, Xabi Alonso needs to make some defensive changes. Whether that be improving what he has or making new signings, something must be done.
Plenty have been linked since the international break kicked in. Man City’s Abdukodir Khusanov, Raul Asencio at Real Madrid, and even Alessandro Bastoni. Now, Chelsea are considering Jarell Quansah.

Thomas Tuchel’s huge praise of Chelsea target Jarell Quansah
Quansah has been improving regularly. The England international has become a key part of the England side under Thomas Tuchel, even if he did get sent off against Mexico at the World Cup in the summer.
Over in Germany, Quansah is now considered one of the league’s best defenders. His versatility is a real selling point, and it is a big part of Tuchel’s continued call-ups for the former Liverpool defender.
According to reports, Chelsea are battling Liverpool, Arsenal and Real Madrid for Quansah. The Reds boast a £60m buyback clause in Quansah’s deal, and Chelsea will have to pay that much to get him.
Well, if Chelsea listen to Tuchel, they have to sign him: “We need Quansah’s speed and ability to think as a centre-back. Top class at the World Cup; top class in training this week; he was excellent in this game.”
Which club suits Jarell Quansah best ahead of 2027?
A move to Real Madrid will be tempting for Quansah, who has already shown he is willing to move countries for the good of his career. But at Madrid, he will struggle to start, despite his huge versatility.
A return to Liverpool might pull at his heartstrings, and the Reds certainly need a long-term replacement for Virgil van Dijk. Is Quansah the man to do so? He is improving, but they are massive shoes to fill.
His performances will be under huge scrutiny if he is seen as van Dijk’s replacement. At Arsenal, there is little chance he starts given the Gunners’ depth. At Chelsea, he starts without doubt under Alonso.
